Image of The Week: Mongolia – It’s the Nothing That Makes it Something

Only one hundred kilometers or so from Mongolia’s capital Ulan Bator, the human habitation slowly starts to dry up and the vast openness of the country becomes apparent. This image shows one of the better stretches of road in the country, and it wouldn’t be long before we were driving through the dust and basically following the tyre tracks of those who had driven before us. Traffic is virtually non existent out here in this very harsh, but extremely beautiful country.

Looks a little like Bolivia! I’m impressed with how nice the road is.

Andi, I’ve travelled on the high plateau’s of Bolivia, many years ago. I’ll have to take your word for it, as I think the brain cells holding those images in my head have long been destroyed. It was an excellent piece of road for Mongolia, but most of the time we were driving completely off road, as it was a better option than using the marked roads as they were in total disrepair.
