Image of The Week: Melbourne – A St Kilda Sunset and Silhouette

This weeks image was captured in my home town of Melbourne a few years ago. Not really a travel destination for myself, but St Kilda is certainly on any travelers todo list when they visit Melbourne (I really just wanted to get another pin location on my weekly image map). The image shows a (now removed) wooden sculpture that was shaped like the hull of a boat and placed on the sand, along the St Kilda beach foreshore.

Hey Andi, Thanks for the praise, and I’m glad you like my hometown. The weather can get a bit drab now and then but I wouldn’rt live anywhere else in Australia.

Hey Maria, Yeah it was a beautiful night, and I remember it clearly. Driving home from work, I was looking out into the horizon and I said to myself ‘tonights going to be a beautiful sunset, I must take the camera down to the beach’.

Something I must try and do more often whilst not traveling is taking more photographs while at home. I get a bit lazy with my camera when I’m not traveling….

It’s always good to see a sunset photo without the sun in it if you know what I mean. Nice use of shadows, with some beautiful cloud formations!

Hey Dave, I know what you mean in the way you describe sunset photo’s and they’ve been done to death over the years. I took this shot when the outline of the wooden sculpture caught my eye. I kind of like this large piece of art on the beach. It’s a shame it’s now been removed.
